ENTEBBE Entebbe is a small town, located on the edge of Lake Victoria. Drive to the Bwindi Impenetrable Forest for overnight with all meals included. Optional charter flights are available at an additional cost to avoid the full day drive Overnight at Gorilla Valley Lodge (BLD)

GORILLA VALLEY LODGE
This lodge, one of only two located inside the Bwindi National Park, is on the edge of the forest, offering spectacular views and a short walk to the starting point for the gorilla tracking. Each of the cottages have their own private verandah and en suite facilities. Wholesome meals are taken either out on the terrace, or in the central dining area where a fireplace provides warmth in the cooler evenings.

DAY 3 – BWINDI NATIONAL PARK
An early morning trek into the forest on the slopes of the volcanoes, led by experienced trackers will bring you amongst a family of Mountain Gorillas. Spend the afternoon at leisure. Overnight at Gorilla Valley Lodge (BLD)

BWINDI IMPENETRABLE FOREST NATIONAL PARK
The park is located in South-western Uganda, covering parts of Rukungiri, Kisoro, and Kabale Districts. It is situated in a hilly countryside, which, together with some remnant lowland forest outside the boundary, constitutes an important water catchment area for many rivers, supplying the agricultural land of the surrounding region. This is the richest forest in Uganda, in terms of the number of plant species, as the area is one of the few large expanses of forest in East Africa where lowland and montane communities merge. The valley contains a dense ground cover of herbs, vines, and shrubs with only a few trees hence its name, the impenetrable forest. This is one of the richest faunal communities in East Africa. Here exists about one half of the world’s population of the endangered mountain gorillas.

DAY 4 – BWINDI NATIONAL PARK
Today you will have the option of a second gorilla trek if pre-purchased. Alternatively explore the village of Bwindi for some curio shopping, visit a local orphanage or pygmy village or take a guided forest walk. Overnight at Gorilla Valley Lodge (BLD)

DAY 5 – BWINDI NATIONAL PARK – QUEEN ELIZABETH NATIONAL PARK

Depart by road heading north to the Ishasha region of the Queen Elizabeth National Park. Here you will be accommodated in the newly established luxury tented camp nestled under trees along a river. The East Africa "Meru" style tents offer comfortable accommodation and ensuite bathrooms. Activities here include game drives, guided walks and bird-watching. Overnight at Ishasha Wilderness Camp or similar (BLD)

QUEEN ELIZABETH NATIONAL PARK
The park spreads over an area of 1978 km2 in the western arm of the Great East Rift Valley. It is a home to a variety of wildlife including elephant, lion, hippo, buffalo, baboon, and birds, all typical of riverine and savannah habitats. In the southern part of the park is the Ishasha where there are tree climbing lions and the Maramagambo, one of the largest surviving natural forests in Uganda. The northern part of the park is traversed by the equator and is dominated by the scenery of crater lakes with lots of flamingos on some of them. A launch trip from Mweya along the Kazinga channel, which joins Lake Edward and Lake George, provides one of the most memorable experiences of the park.

DAY 6 – QUEEN ELIZABETH NATIONAL PARK

A second day may be enjoyed in the Park, and there will be time to enjoy a boat cruise on the Kazinga Channel, as well as additional game drives. Chimp tracking in Chamburu Gorge is optional, as well as visiting the bat caves and python in the Maramagambo forest area. Overnight Ishasha Wilderness Camp or similar (BLD)

DAY 7 – QUEEN ELIZABETH NATIONAL PARK – KIBALE FOREST

Drive into the Kibale Forest for the Chimp trekking. Overnight lodge or tented camp (BLD)

KIBALE FOREST
Kibale is one of Uganda’s enchanting forested parks. The park contains pristine lowland tropical rain forest, montane forest, and mixed tropical deciduous forest. In addition to forest, there are areas of grassland and swamp. The forest is rich in wildlife. It is most noted for its primate population - red-tailed monkey, diademed monkey, olive baboon, chimpanzee & colobus. Some of the other mammals you may see are bushbuck, Harvey’s red duiker, blue duiker, bush pig, and African civet. Herds of elephant once travelled back and forth through the area, but have become more and more rare. The birdlife in the forest is abundant with almost 300 species here.

DAY 8 – KIBALE FOREST
Spend the morning chimp trekking with afternoon at leisure or take an optional forest walk. Overnight lodge or tented camp (BLD)

DAY 9 – KIBALE FOREST – ENTEBBE – NGAMBA ISLAND

Return to Entebbe for the boat transfer to Ngamba Island Chimpanzee Reserve on Lake Victoria, where orphaned chimpanzees have been relocated. Accommodation will be in large East African style tents with ensuite bathroom facilities on platforms overlooking the lake. Overnight tented camp (BLD)

NGAMBA ISLAND CHIMPANZEE SANCTUARY (Not Included) Ngamba Island is part of the Koome group of islands located on Lake Victoria 23km south of Entebbe, Uganda. It consists of approximately 100 acres, 98 of which are forested and separated from the visitor’s area by an electric fence. Ngamba Island was officially opened to visitors in October 1999 and is currently home to 35 orphaned chimpanzees, 15 of which have been confiscated and brought to the island since it’s opening. Ngamba Island is a project of the Chimpanzees Sanctuary and Wildlife Conservation Trust (CSWCT), established in 1997 by the Born Free Foundation (UK), International Fund for Animal Welfare (USA), the Jane Goodall Institute (Germany and Uganda), The Uganda Wildlife Education Centre Trust (UWECT) and the Zoological Board of New South Wales (Australia) and it provides these orphaned chimpanzees with a secure home to live out their lives, since a return to their natural habitat is not possible, while educating visitors and local communities about their remarkable species and the importance of conserving their fragile forest habitat.
