GOLD REEF CITY
A former working gold mine, Gold Reef City is now a popular theme park, where
one
can now absorb the atmosphere of the early 1900's while learning the history of
the
mineral that built Johannesburg. Walk through the original homes of the miners
and
mine bosses, watch a gold bar being poured and then descend into the depths of a
real
gold mine.
PRETORIA AND CHEETAH BREEDING CENTRE
There is an early departure to the Cheetah Breeding Centre at de Wildt. This
research
centre was founded in 1971 with the express purpose of saving the Cheetah - what
was then an endangered species. It has now grown to include breeding of wild
dogs,
brown hyena, riverine rabbit, blue duiker and cape vulture. Afterwards enjoy
lunch at a
Pretoria restaurant followed by a tour of the nation's capital. Visit the Union
Buildings
which house the State President’s office, Church Square, the Civic Theatre
complex, the
Voortrekker Monument, the diplomatic suburbs and the University before returning
to
your hotel.
LESEDI CULTURAL EXPERIENCE
Depart the city and travel to nearby Lesedi Cultural Village where guests can
share the
excitement and warmth of true rural African culture. A guided tour of the
village with its
four homesteads – Zulu, Xhosa, Basotho and Pedi, each with their own unique
culture
is included. After a few drinks in the bar, guests and the families meet back in
the
Boma for traditional song and dance of all four villages. This is followed by a
Pan
African Feast, which is served in the Nyama Choma restaurant with delicacies
from
North, East and South Africa. Return to the city in the afternoon.
JOHANNESBURG CITY TOUR
This morning after breakfast visit the "City of Gold". Johannesburg was born out
of the
discovery of gold. This once dusty mining town has emerged to become a modern
city
thriving with commercial, financial, industrial and trading opportunities. It is
the
headquarters of numerous international corporations and government institutions.
It is
a city filled with excitement and contrasts through the unique cultural and
social history
of the people.
SOWETO TOUR
Shrouded in myth and controversy, vibrant Soweto is a city of surprise and
contrast, of
emerging enterprises and of vigorous cultural interaction. This morning takes in
the
biggest city in Southern Africa - steeped in apartheid history. Visit the former
home of
Nelson Mandela as well as the houses of Winnie Mandela and Bishop Tutu. See the
millionaire mansions cheek by jowl with the tin shacks of the poor.
Have you considered adding
to your South Africa trip - perhaps Safaris elsewhere in Africa.
