GARDEN ROUTE
CAPE TOWN to PORT ELIZABETH
South Africa
4 Days/3 nights
DAY 1 - CAPE TOWN TO OUDTSHOORN
Early departure from your hotel and travel through the
Little Karoo to Oudtshoorn, the ostrich capital of the
world. Continue to a fully operational Ostrich Ranch,
where you are taken on a guided tour, which includes an
opportunity to ride an ostrich! These flightless birds
are rapid runners and can reach speeds of approximately
65 km/hr. In the afternoon visit the Cango Caves, one of
the world’s great natural wonders, where limestone
formations have been sculptured by nature through the
ages. Lunch included at the Ostrich Ranch.
Overnight: Hlangana Lodge or similar (L)
DAY 2 - OUDTSHOORN -
KNYSNA
Today takes you to George, the sixth oldest town in
South Africa, nestling below the magnificent Outeniqua
Mountains. Travel past lakes and lagoons to Knysna. This
picturesque town is known as the Jewel of the Garden
Route and lies on the banks of a shimmering lagoon.
Knysna is synonymous with fine indigenous timbers; famed
for the craftsmanship of its furniture and timber
products. Enjoy a tour of the Featherbed Nature Reserve,
a unique 150 ha private Nature Reserve. The tour
includes return ferry trip on the lagoon, a tractor
drawn trailer ride to the top of the reserve, a guided
nature walk and a spectacular fish lunch. Afternoon at
leisure.
Overnight: The Knysna Log Inn or similar (BL)
DAY 3 - KNYSNA
After breakfast, travel to the up-market holiday town of
Plettenberg Bay. Originally christened "Bahia Formosa"
(beautiful bay) by early Portuguese explorers, it is
home to the rare Knysna forest elephant, delicate
ecosystems in wetlands and lagoons, gigantic trees, and
a bay large enough for the great whales of the Southern
Ocean to calve and protect their young. Here you visit
Monkeyland, the world’s first free roaming primate
sanctuary for a walking safari through the dense forest,
then on to the Keurboom’s River mouth for an eco-river
cruise through soaring gorges of the unspoilt Keurbooms
River Nature Reserve. Picnic lunch on the tranquil
waters. Return to Knysna where the remainder of the day
is spent at leisure.
Overnight: The Knysna Log Inn or similar (BL)
DAY 4 - KNYSNA - PORT
ELIZABETH
Depart Knysna and travel to the Tsitsikamma National
Park. Tsitsikamma is the Khoi-San word for a place of
many waters. The park is internationally recognized for
its forests, which harbour and conserve the giant
Outeniqua Yellowwood - one of the few true monarchs of
the world's forests. Here join a guided tour by tractor
drawn wagon or Land Rover through the breathtaking and
tranquil forests of the Garden Route. Lunch is included.
Continue through to Port Elizabeth, set along the
beautiful shores of Algoa Bay and better known as the
Friendly City! After a short drive through the city your
