Bench International: Our History  

We are a Sydney based company incorporated in 1969 to design and market African Safari Holidays.

Over the 38 years we have been in business we have successfully operated a range of tours from South Africa Botswana Zambia and Zimbabwe and then Kenya Tanzania and Egypt. We have an endless array of options to fit into your time frame and your budget and particular interests. It is up to you !

Our 56 page main Africa brochure along with our Egypt brochure will give some idea of the most popular choices and our expert staff will be able to fill in the gaps and give you some friendly tips that can only be sourced from one who has ``been there and done it`` - and in the case of our staff – many times.

It is our first hand knowledge that makes us different from the rest and also our pride in knowing it all began with us.

Our CEO Sydney Consultants

Charles Bench
is the founder and CEO of the company and his exposure to the magical product ``Africa`` came during a spell in London with South African Airways. He put together their first Holiday Brochure and the associated marketing campaign. Whilst not an instant success it became the foundation stone on which many subsequent programmes were based and was for Charles a great learning exercise.

By the time he had arrived in Australia to set up his business he had already paddled through Botswana’s Okavango Delta – a pretty rare thing to do in those days, and canoed the Zambezi and driven all around South Africa inspecting hotels and tourism attractions.

Charles has been back well over 150 times and still does his hotel inspections – and still hates the repetition of looking at so many hotel rooms!

He also puts our brochures together, does all the buying, sets up the contracts with the ground handlers and designs the itineraries – and loves doing it!


When you phone or email us to make a booking, or to find out more details about tour and accommodation options, you are talking to a consultants operating out of our Sydney Head Office. Bench consultants are all highly trained and have travelled extensively around Africa.

Justin Smythe is our New South Wales sales executive and he has recently returned from visiting Cape Town, Sun City and Game Lodges in the Kruger National Park region.

Debra Kruk
is our Sales Executive in Queensland. During her ten years with us she has travelled many times to all the countries in which we operate. Debra has experience, knowledge and deep passion for travel to Africa.
