The Young Rangers’ Club (Teenagers)
The Young Rangers Club offers adventurous youngsters the chance to bring their wildest dreams to life – as they learn to survive the greatest wilderness on the planet.

Heritage Hotels’ Young Rangers’ Club offers a unique opportunity for older children and school groups to get ‘up close and personal’ with the African wilderness, learning its wild ways from some of the continent’s most qualified guides, and taking part in vital community and conservation initiatives in some of the world’s last great wild places.

The ‘big brother’ of Heritage’s renowned Adventurers’ Club, the Young Rangers’ Club is available to all youngsters aged 12-18 years at legendary safari properties in the world-famous game reserves of Samburu and the Maasai Mara, the semi-arid wilds of Tsavo West, and the lush ‘happy valley’ of Lake Naivasha. In addition to the acclaimed Adventure Centres at each property, the Club offers an unrivalled combination of hands-on training and state-of-the-art equipment that enables Rangers to learn the intricate skills of bush survival – as well as the natural sciences behind the world’s largest mammals and brightest birds, its healthiest plants and scariest snakes, its toughest warriors and wisest weathermen.

The Young Rangers’ Club is available in several different packages for school groups, family holidays, or extended family groups. As well as special game drives, bush walks and cultural experiences, Rangers can undertake personal studies of a selected species – answering every question they’ve ever had about their favourite animal. At the end of their stay, each Ranger will receive an official certificate as proof of their new ‘bush savvy’.

Locations & Facilities
The Young Rangers’ bases allow Rangers and their families to combine the very best of Kenya – from the game-rich grasslands of the Maasai Mara to the forested slopes around Lake Naivasha, the wild deserts of Samburu to the untamed wilderness of Kenya’s largest national park, Tsavo. Each property offers the finest safari accommodation, from luxurious tents in the middle of the magnificent Mara wilderness or scattered among a series of freshwater springs at Siana, to rooms with one of the Earth’s widest and wildest views at the Great Rift Valley Lodge.

At Siana Springs, the Young Rangers’ Club offers a broad variety of ‘hands-on’ facilities, such as our famous Animal Obstacle Course, which enables kids to mimic the movements of different mammals before studying the serious science of survival behind them. The Great Rift Valley Lodge offers a host of more modern adventures, from horse rides and bicycle safaris to golf lessons and tours of the Rift’s ‘Great Lakes’, while at Samburu Intrepids, the latest Rangers’ programme offers a host of rarer safari activities, from lessons in livestock herding and handling ancient weaponry to meetings with real-life magicians and hikes up a mystical sacred mountain.

Our Guides

Heritage’s Young Rangers’ Club benefits from one of the finest guiding pedigrees on the continent. Over the years, we have grown into one of Africa’s most reputable and highly qualified safari families, with a team of naturalists and culturalists that is second to none. Activities

The Young Rangers’ Club is available to all children aged between 12 and 17 who are visiting Heritage Hotels with their families or in organised school groups. By providing Rangers with a comprehensive programme of conservation education, community interaction and practical ‘bush skills’, the Club aims to help children to appreciate the importance of Africa’s wilderness and tribal cultures – and the need to preserve both for future generations.

Rangers’ courses are usually staged over three or four days, with an established itinerary of interrelated activities. After each day in the bush, Rangers spend the evenings discussing their day’s ‘findings’ with local naturalists and community members, watching documentary programmes, or undertaking special night-time activities, such as stargazing or nocturnal animal spotting. Special fly-camping expeditions are also available to the Loita Hills in Maasailand or to the summit of the Samburus’ sacred Mount Ololokwe – where Rangers are guaranteed even loftier heights of cultural awareness!
