KwaZulu-Natal is a place of great scenic beauty, from mountains and midlands to pristine beaches, it is a natural splendour combined with a rich culture and historical heritage. Visitors can immerse themselves in the Zulu culture at villages around the province, while extensive battlefields tourism routes bring the famous Zulu-Boer-British wars to life. The cultural heritage also includes the San (Bushmen), with tens of thousands of rock paintings to be seen in the World Heritage Site of the Drakensberg Mountains. The area offers walking, hiking and adventure activities.
Depart early morning for the foot of the mountains and transfer to 4x4 vehicles for the climb through the highest vehicle pass in Southern Africa. The views from Sani Pass are utterly spectacular. Once into Lesotho visit a tribal village, before enjoying lunch at the highest pub in Africa. This afternoon travel back down the mountain and spend the night in a nearby hotel. Morning is at leisure to enjoy the spectacular views before continuing via the southern Midlands Meander Route to reach the most beautiful spot , the World Heritage Site of Giant’s Castle. After breakfast, set off on a leisurely 3km round-trip hike to the caves (average level of fitness required), which were once home to South Africa’s earliest inhabitants and enjoy a guided tour of the rock paintings. After a leisurely morning, travel back to Durban, via the quaint art and craft stores and farmer’s markets of the northern Midlands Meander Route, arriving back in Durban late afternoon. (B)
