Full day of game activities as outlined below in the game reserve with all meals. Early morning and late afternoon game drives in search of the elusive Big Five are conducted in open Land Rovers under the supervision of knowledgeable rangers and trackers. Other wildlife on Thanda’s 14,000-ha property include the wild dog, endangered black rhino, cheetah, hyaena, warthog and plains game as well as an abundance of bird life. The best time for game drives is first thing in the morning or late afternoon as animals are more active during the cooler hours of the day. Game drives are conducted in open-topped Land Rovers, with a maximum of six guests per vehicle. Our game rangers, trackers and field guides have extensive knowledge of both the fauna and flora in Thanda's ecosystems. During bush walks guests have the opportunity to learn about all the fascinating uses of plant sin the area and to identify animal spoor. *Transfers are an additional cost. You can travel to Thanda by road or air. The quickest and easiest way to get to Thanda is by air. You can fly to Richard's Bay from either Johannesburg or Durban, followed by a short flight or road transfer to the lodge. A light aircraft shuttle service operates between Richard's Bay and Phinda. Should you choose to travel to Thanda from Richard's Bay by road, a comfortable drive of approximately two to two and a half hours will get you there. Should you choose to travel by road, the distance from Johannesburg to Thanda is approximately 650 km and takes about seven and a half hours to cover on tarred roads. The drive from Durban to Thanda is roughly 400 km and takes approx. three and a half hours.
