The refreshing swimming pool surrounded by well-kept gardens offers relaxation and even a little exercise in-between game drives. Our resident masseuse offers a wide range of wellness and beauty treatments.

Karen Blixen Camp is the perfect place to sit back and relax with a gin and tonic overlooking the Mara River and the wildlife coming to drink, whilst exchanging stories about the day’s adventures.

The camp is located in the exclusive private, award winning conservation area, the Mara North Conservancy. The conservancy adjoins the Masai Mara Game Reserve and stretches north between the Mara River and the Olare River up to the Lemek Hills which it includes as well – with its 32,000 hectares and low vehicle density, the visitor is granted a private and exclusive wilderness experience away from the masses and minivans.

The Masai Mara holds a great diversity of species and it is advisable if time permits to spend at least 3 or 4 nights here.

Day 1: Nairobi – Mara North Conservancy, Masai Mara

Day 2: Mara North Conservancy / Masai Mara Game Reserve

During the Migration Season (mid July – end October) we will spend the whole day game viewing in the Masai Mara Game Reserve. Masai Mara means dotted trees – and it is often in the shadow of these we find lions resting, a leopard finishing its prey or resting on a branch or a cheetah climbing a termite mount to scan the horizon for its lunch. The Masai Mara is so rich in game that it exceeds every visitor’s expectations and during the months of mid July to end October, the area sees the annual migration with over a million wildebeests, zebras and antelopes, adding to the excitement when crossing the mighty Mara River or the lesser Talek River where large Nile Crocodiles hope to get their feast. From November to mid July we can choose between a full day game drive in Mara North Conservancy or a morning and afternoon game drive. The conservancy is very rich in game and holds the highest concentration of lions anywhere in the Mara – Serengeti Ecosystem. One will also have a good chance of viewing very large herds of buffalo, elands and elephants amongst a very healthy population of leopards, cheetahs and hyaenas. Overnight at Karen Blixen Camp. Parc National Des Volcans is home to over half of the regions surviving 650 mountain gorillas and was immortalised in the film "Gorillas in the Mist", the biographical account of primatologist Dian Fossey which was set and shot in the park. The chain of 4,570 metre volcanoes stretching through Rwanda, Uganda and the Democratic Republic of Congo, affords wonderful views of the volcanoes and the surrounding countryside and is the place to experience the most intimate and poignant of wildlife encounters.
