Welcome to Bench International celebrating 39 years sending Australian
travellers to Africa. As a regular visitor to various African Game Parks
each year, I must say that few stories have actually captured the real
atmosphere of being there, or truly described that inner feeling and
that personality change that almost takes place. Outward calm and such
inner excitement, as you paddle through the Okavango Delta in a dugout
canoe watching out for those tell-tale bubbles...is it a Hippo guarding
its pod or just a barbel? Either way steer clear. Then there is waking
up in the morning in your lodge in Amboseli in Kenya and going outside
to take some morning air and gaze in awe at Mount Kilimanjaro...
Africa's highest mountain... towering right up to the sky.
The thunder of Victoria Falls is like no other sound but it is all
powerful and it draws you in close and forces you to conquer your fear.
And it says to you "You will come back"
Cape Town has Table Mountain playing the dominant role but it is like a
chameleon changing its shape and when the table cloth starts to slip and
slide it can disappear altogether and yet you can feel its ghostly
presence. And when the sun shines which is most of the time there is an
air of gaiety in this city of wine and food'
Lastly and far from least we have the animals that for most are the
greatest drawcard. The African Elephant, that in spite of its enormous
size, moves silently through the bush, the lion with its mating roar
that makes the hairs curl at the nape of the neck, and the warning cough
of the leopard. All of this whilst you sip drinks on the stoop of your
tent. .
See you on safari
